MNT GOAT: 🇮🇶🔥 REMOVING ZEROS: MORE THAN A CURRENCY RESTRUCTURING?
💱 A new Iraqi economic report says removing zeros could be part of a broader monetary and banking reform package designed to simplify financial transactions, strengthen confidence in the dinar and support economic stability.
⚠️ The report makes one point very clear:
Removing zeros does NOT automatically increase or decrease the purchasing power of the dinar.
If prices, salaries and savings are converted at the same rate, the purchasing power remains unchanged.
🏦 But the bigger issue is what happens to the enormous amount of cash outside Iraq’s banking system.
💰 According to the report, approximately 105 trillion IQD has been issued, while only around 8 trillion IQD is inside the banking system.
That leaves approximately:
🚨 97 TRILLION IQD OUTSIDE THE BANKING SYSTEM.
And according to economist Haitham Al-Khazali, removing zeros could help:
🔹 Bring cash held by citizens, merchants and investors into banks
🔹 Reduce the informal cash economy
🔹 Increase banking activity
🔹 Force illicit funds into the financial system
🔹 Improve financial transparency
🔹 Support monetary and banking reform
🔥 AND THEN COMES THE LIQUIDITY ISSUE.
Reports are now saying that the payment of government salaries could be delayed until the end of August or even the beginning of September because of liquidity shortages and delays in funding ministries and state institutions.
