GOLDILOCKS UPDATE, 10 FEB

 GOLDILOCKS

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – "A delegation from the International Road Transport Union (IRU) visited Iraq last week to establish the framework for the country’s first cross-border transit under the International Road Transport (TIR) transit system."

The TIR (Transports Internationaux Routiers) system is a United Nations customs transit system that allows goods to be shipped between countries. Iraq recently signed a Guarantee Agreement to implement TIR, which will enable the country to ship goods more efficiently and securely.

How does TIR work?

* TIR allows goods to be shipped in sealed containers that are monitored by customs.

* TIR reduces the time it takes to cross borders.

* TIR provides a financial guarantee for customs duties and taxes.

* TIR is used by over 66 countries.

Why is TIR important for Iraq?

* TIR can help Iraq become a regional trade hub.

* TIR can help Iraq grow its non-oil sectors.

* TIR can help Iraq strengthen its position in international trade.

Iraq is preparing to implement its first TIR transport operation. They are working with the International Road Transport Union (IRU) to ensure TIR is implemented smoothly. And, Iraq is considering using vehicle tracking devices for transports under TIR .
