Turkey: Development Road Designs Completed By 90%

Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkader Oaoglu, confirmed on Friday that the designs of the development road have been completed by 90%, while pointing out that the development path will have a role in linking the Gulf countries to Europe.

“Participation in the ministerial meeting of transport ministers was at the level of the four countries, Iraq, Turkey, the UAE and Qatar, and the presence in Iraq is valuable, which is the second meeting after the first edition in Turkey,” Oaglu said in a statement to the official agency.

He pointed out that “the world today needs other corridors linking countries and world trade, so the need for corridors and the development project will have an important and effective role to link the Gulf countries to Turkey and Europe until reaching London.”

He added that “the designs have now been completed by 90% and today through the meetings there was extensive consultation and meetings and we believe that the project will have a great role and economic benefit for Iraq and the region as a whole, so we are supportive of the project and we hope that it will be done in full.”

The ministerial meeting of the Iraqi, Turkish, Qatari and Emirati transport ministers announced yesterday, Thursday, and at the conclusion of the issuance of a statement on the meeting, stressing the adoption of the coordinating entity to manage the work of the development path project and a number of points promoting joint cooperation.

Transport Minister Razak Muhaibas Al-Saadawi read the statement, stressing that “the ministers held the second ministerial meeting and discussed the memorandum of understanding for joint cooperation on the development road project, which was signed on April 22, 2024 by the States parties, namely the Republic of Iraq, the brotherly state of Qatar, the brotherly United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Turkey. In order to activate joint cooperation between the countries parties and develop an effective mechanism to manage joint work, it was decided to establish the quadripartite ministerial council chaired by the Minister of Transport in the Republic of Iraq, the membership of the Minister of Transport in the brotherly State of Qatar, the Minister of Transport, Energy and Infrastructure in the brotherly United Arab Emirates and the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure in the Republic of Turkey, and accordingly The First Social Ministerial Council in Turkey was held on August 29, 2024. The Minister of Transport of the Republic of Iraq, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey participated in the meeting in presence, His Excellency the Minister of Transport of the brotherly State of Qatar and the Minister of Transport, Energy and Infrastructure of the sisterly United Arab Emirates via video communication.

He added, “The Ministerial Council held its second meeting on October 31, 2024 in attendance in Baghdad, the capital of the Republic of Iraq, where a visual presentation was reviewed that includes the latest developments on the progress of the progress of work in the development path project (governance for the project) and the guarantee of the powers and tasks entrusted to each of the Ministerial Council, the executive team, the joint technical team and the secretariat, realizing the strategic importance of the development path project, emphasising the strong links between the States parties built on the basis of strategic partnership, brotherhood, good neighborliness, mutual respect and trust, continuing to develop joint cooperation between the States Parties to achieve common strategic goals, provide an example to follow in neighboring countries and stressing the importance of intensifying interdependence in among the States Parties through linkages with the Development Path Project.
