INAUGURATION OF AN ELECTRIC POWER TRANSMISSION LINE IN BABYLON WITH WIRES USED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN IRAQ
Baghdad Today – Baghdad
Today, Thursday (March 7, 2024), Minister of Electricity Ziad Ali Fadel announced the opening of a line to transmit electrical energy in Babil Governorate with wires used for the first time in Iraq.
The ministry’s media said in a statement received by “Baghdad Today”, that “Minister of Electricity Ziad Ali Fadel revealed the details of the new project, which is 18 km long, and passes through 63 towers,” pointing to “replacing the old wires.” With modern wires with high efficiency, allowing the transfer of a larger amount of energy, with limited sagging when temperatures rise, compared to the rest of the types, and it also reduces technical losses caused by losses in energy transmission, thus reducing the need to generate more energy.”
According to the statement, the minister explained that “the use of modern wires will increase the amount of energy transmitted through the line from (840) amperes in the old technology to (2.191) amperes in the new technology, which will raise the amount of Energy transmitted through the line by two and a half times and reduces losses by 35 percent.”
He stressed that “these projects, which are the fruit of cooperation between the Ministry and the Iraqi private sector, will enhance the capabilities of transmission networks, which will reflect positively on the number of hours of energy supply to citizens during the coming summer,” praising “the efforts made to complete the project, starting from the planning and implementation stage to completion.”
He pointed out that “the Ministry is continuing to implement its new and rehabilitation projects in the production, transmission and distribution sectors with the support and continuous care of Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani, and the cooperation of other ministries in this aspect.”
(Iraq will need the electricity for the electronic payment project to be successful. Also think about it…..how many years have we read articles about joint projects and allocated billions of funds between Siemans and GE and still there we nothing to show for it. Now we see some success. )
