Iraqi Minister of Oil Highlights Role of Government in Boosting Gas Investments

In a recent move that signifies Iraq’s growing foothold in the global energy sector, the Iraqi Minister of Oil underscored the critical role of governmental backing in fast-tracking gas investment projects. This announcement was made during the inauguration of the Iraq Oil and Gas Conference, a significant event in the country’s energy calendar.

Emphasizing Governmental Support

The minister credited the Prime Minister’s oversight and persistent governmental support as the driving forces behind the rapid implementation of these projects. He stressed that this synergy between the government and energy sector is instrumental in bolstering Iraq’s gas production capabilities and aligning with its broader strategy to expand energy investments.

International Collaborations and Success Stories

The minister shed light on the successful execution of gas investment contracts with international giants like Total. These contracts, with a combined capacity of  600 million standard cubic feet per day (MSCFD), epitomize Iraq’s progress in the gas sector. Among the notable achievements, the minister cited the Al-Halfaya field in Maysan with a capacity of 300 MSCFD, the Dhi Qar project with 200 MSCFD, and the Ben Omar field in Basra with a capacity of 150 MSCFD.

Future Prospects

This accelerated momentum in the gas sector is a promising indicator of Iraq’s future as a key player in the global energy landscape. As the country continues to leverage international collaborations and governmental support, it is poised to bolster its gas production capabilities and, in turn, significantly impact the global energy market.
