🇮🇶💱🔥 IS IRAQ PREPARING THE WAY FOR A MORE REGULATED FOREX MARKET?

A recent Channel8 report is drawing attention to something we rarely see discussed: the continued growth of Forex and cryptocurrency trading inside Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

🏦 According to the report, Forex and crypto activity continues to expand despite official restrictions. Some of this activity reportedly takes place through unregulated platforms, social-media brokers, and P2P transactions.

🚨 For Iraqi authorities, this creates obvious concerns involving fraud, money laundering, unauthorized financial flows, and consumer losses, especially when users have little legal protection.

💱 And this is where I find the story particularly interesting.

For perhaps the first time, we are seeing much more visible attention being placed on the fact that a Forex market exists inside Iraq and that authorities want greater control over it.

🤔 MY OPINION:

If Iraq is genuinely moving toward deeper financial modernization, it makes sense for the government and the CBI to identify, regulate, and eventually formalize the channels through which foreign currencies are traded.

🇮🇶 If Iraq eventually wants the dinar to participate more broadly in international financial markets, having a cleaner, more transparent and regulated foreign-exchange environment would be a logical step.

First, authorities would need to address unauthorized brokers, underground platforms, and transactions that are difficult to monitor. Then, a more organized FX market could potentially support greater financial integration with the global economy.

🔥 Does this mean the IQD is about to enter a free-floating Forex market?

❌ No. This report does NOT confirm an upcoming free float or a revaluation of the Iraqi dinar.

But 👀 it raises an interesting question:

Could Iraq be tightening control over its Forex market because its financial system is moving toward greater openness and international connectivity?

📌 In my view, this is worth watching. Not because it confirms an RV, but because it shows that the foreign-exchange market inside Iraq is a real issue that authorities appear to be taking increasingly seriously.

💡 If banking reforms, efforts to reduce the parallel market, payment modernization, and currency-market regulation continue advancing, it will be very interesting to see what role the IQD ultimately plays in Iraq’s evolving financial system.

⚠️ For now, this should be viewed as an interesting development to monitor—not confirmation of an imminent revaluation.

🇮🇶💱🔥 The Forex market already exists. The bigger question is: what is Iraq preparing to do with it?

SANDY INGRAM : 🇮🇶💴 DID IRAQ REALLY APPROVE REMOVING THE 3 ZEROS?

SANDY INGRAM :

🇮🇶💴 DID IRAQ REALLY APPROVE REMOVING THE 3 ZEROS?

🚨 PAY ATTENTION TO THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DISCUSSION AND OFFICIAL APPROVAL!

Sandy Ingram says Iraq is seriously discussing the removal of three zeros from the dinar again, and Iraqi TV may be preparing the public for a possible currency reform.

🟢 WHAT WE KNOW:

🇮🇶 The issue is being actively discussed in Iraq.
📋 Currency restructuring is being considered.
🏦 The reform could simplify banking and financial transactions.

🔴 BUT HERE’S THE KEY:

The Council of Ministers has not officially confirmed a final implementation decision, and the CBI has not announced an official implementation date.

💱 And remember: removing zeros does NOT automatically mean an RV or a new exchange rate. An official announcement would be needed regarding the process, new denominations, timing, and any exchange-rate changes.

👀🇮🇶 The discussion is moving forward… but we’re still waiting for official confirmation from the CBI!

The Washington Post: Iraq under al-Zaidi's leadership is on a path of positive change

📰🇮🇶 The Washington Post: Iraq Under Al-Zaidi's Leadership Is On A Path Of Positive Change

An article published in The Washington Post on Thursday reviewed the key achievements of Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi during his first 100 days in office.

Titled "What Has Iraq's Prime Minister Accomplished in His First 100 Days?", the article compares Iraq's new government with the traditional benchmark often used to evaluate new administrations during their first 100 days.

It notes that although Iraq's government formation took approximately 180 days following the 2025 elections, the new administration quickly began pursuing an ambitious reform agenda.

🌍 A New Direction For Iraq

The article argues that while 100 days may seem like a brief period for a country burdened by years of political crises, they have been sufficient to demonstrate that Iraq is beginning to move in a new direction.

According to the report, the country is transitioning from simply managing crises to beginning the long process of shaping its future.

🤝 A New Foreign Policy Approach

One of Prime Minister al-Zaidi's first major initiatives was his official visit to Washington at the invitation of President Donald Trump.

According to the article, Iraq did not seek security assistance alone. Instead, it presented a broader vision centered on:

  • 🤝 Economic cooperation
  • 💼 Foreign investment
  • ⚡ Energy development
  • 🏗️ Infrastructure projects

The report states that Iraq is seeking to redefine itself as a country offering investment opportunities rather than one that attracts international attention only during times of crisis.

⚖️ Combating Corruption

Domestically, the article highlights the government's decision to prioritize the fight against corruption and the recovery of public funds.

According to the report, the Integrity Commission intensified investigations into government contracts, followed by Operation Dawn, a nationwide anti-corruption campaign.

The article notes that between June 28 and August 9, at least 210 officials, members of parliament, employees, and businessmen were reportedly arrested.

Recent headlines cited include:

  • 💵 Iraq seizes another $26 million in cash and 60 kilograms of gold.
  • ⚡ Iraqi electricity official arrested with millions of dollars in cash.

The report argues that these actions suggest the anti-corruption campaign extends beyond political messaging and represents a serious effort to recover public assets.

It also notes that al-Zaidi ordered the creation of a special public account where recovered funds from corruption cases will be deposited for public benefit.

🛡️ The Challenge Of State-Controlled Weapons

According to the article, perhaps the greatest challenge facing the new government is restoring the state's exclusive authority over weapons.

The report notes that in a country where heavily armed factions possess sophisticated military capabilities, restricting weapons to the state cannot be achieved through administrative decisions alone.

Instead, it describes the effort as a long-term political and security challenge.

🇮🇶 Restoring State Authority

During its first 100 days, the al-Zaidi government declared that the Iraqi state alone should hold the authority to make national security decisions.

The Prime Minister stated that Iraqi security forces are fully capable of protecting the country and that there will be no need for armed factions or foreign forces after September 30.

He also reaffirmed the government's commitment to bringing all weapons under the authority of the state.

📈 Three National Priorities

The article concludes that three major national objectives now converge:

  • 💼 Attracting foreign investment through greater security.
  • ⚖️ Recovering stolen public funds through stronger institutions.
  • 🏛️ Strengthening Iraqi sovereignty by ensuring that security decisions remain exclusively in the hands of the state.

🚀 A New Beginning

While acknowledging that 100 days is not enough time to transform a country completely, the article argues that Iraq's trajectory has clearly begun to change.

It describes the new administration as focusing not only on solving immediate problems but also on rebuilding state institutions and restoring public confidence.

According to the report, Iraq is strengthening relations with Washington through partnership rather than dependence, expanding opportunities for investment, intensifying anti-corruption efforts, and reaffirming that national security decisions belong solely to the Iraqi state.

The article concludes that although the government's mission is far from complete, its first 100 days represent the beginning of a new chapter in Iraq's efforts to strengthen sovereignty, protect public wealth, and build a more stable future.

JEFF: 🇮🇶💱 IRAQ’S NEXT STEPS AND THE FUTURE VALUE OF THE IQD

🔥 According to Jeff, Iraq still has several phases to complete on its path toward becoming fully sovereign and fully integrated into the international financial system.

🏛️ He identifies what he believes are two key upcoming steps:

1️⃣ Government/Cabinet approval
2️⃣ A change in the official exchange rate

💥 Jeff believes that once these steps occur, other “dominoes” could begin to fall, leading to additional political, economic, and financial developments.

🇰🇼 He also compares the Iraqi dinar with the Kuwaiti dinar, pointing to Kuwait’s current currency value of around $3.23 and arguing that sanctions historically contributed to the Iraqi dinar’s decline.

💱 According to his interpretation, removing those restrictions could eventually allow the IQD to regain significantly more value.

📈 Jeff’s projection: He believes the Iraqi dinar could potentially reach approximately $3.80.

⚠️ IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: The $3.80 figure is Jeff’s personal projection and is NOT an officially announced IQD exchange rate. The claims about upcoming government approval, a rate change, and the timing of these events remain UNVERIFIED until confirmed by Iraqi authorities or the Central Bank of Iraq.

Iraq Wants To Delete Zeros From The Dinar But Will This Help Its Economy?

Iraq Wants To Delete Zeros From The Dinar But Will This Help Its Economy?

The National News

Iraq is again considering a long-standing and controversial plan to delete zeros from the dinar as the country struggles with a deepening budget squeeze. The latest discussions revive an issue debated in Iraq for more than two decades.

The proposal was first floated during the tenure of former US civil administrator Paul Bremer in 2003 and has repeatedly resurfaced without being implemented. This time, the debate comes as Baghdad's budget squeeze is worsened by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, disrupting Iraq’s main oil export route.

  • Sari instructed the Budget Department to finalize draft allocations within specified deadlines and realistic fiscal estimates.
  • The transition moves Iraq away from traditional line-item budgeting to link resources directly to strategic outcomes.
  • The ministry aims to maximize spending efficiency amid broader fiscal pressures affecting the country.

Iraqi Minister of Finance Faleh Sari visited the Ministry of Finance's Budget Department to inspect ongoing work on the country's upcoming federal draft budget. During the review, Sari instructed officials to adhere strictly to completion schedules while implementing a program and performance budgeting framework designed to overhaul public expenditure management.

Key Statements and Focus Area

Transitioning Fiscal Strategy

"The Ministry is moving toward a gradual transition from line-item budgeting to program and performance budgeting. This approach links resource allocation directly to objectives, programs, and outcomes, thereby enhancing the efficiency of public expenditure management."

— Faleh Sari, Iraqi Minister of Finance

Methodological Discipline

"Completing the draft budget within specified deadlines requires finalizing its requirements according to a precise methodology and realistic estimates to ensure it serves targeted national results."

— Ministry of Finance Press Release

Shift to Program and Performance Methodology

The Ministry of Finance is phasing out the traditional line-item framework, which historically focused on administrative inputs, in favor of a system that allocates funds based on measurable project deliverables. The new model ties operational and investment outlays directly to sectoral goals, providing clearer oversight over public spending efficiency.

Enforcing Preparation Deadlines

Minister Sari urged department leads to maintain momentum to meet structural deadlines for the upcoming budget cycle. He emphasized that precise revenue and cost estimations are critical to making the new budgeting model functional and sustainable for state institutions.

FYI

The adoption of a program and performance budget reflects an effort to modernize public financial management in Iraq.

Amid volatile energy revenues and structural fiscal pressures, linking state outlays to performance benchmarks allows authorities to prioritize essential infrastructure, improve transparency, and restrict wasteful administrative spending across government ministries.
