Al-Mashhadani: We reached solutions with Nechirvan Barzani to the region's salary crisis.

7/6/2025

- Erbil

Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani announced on Sunday that he and Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani had reached solutions to the Kurdistan Region's employee salary crisis, which will be discussed in the coming days.

This came during Mahmoud Mashhadani's visit to Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, and his meeting with Nechirvan Barzani, in the presence of Deputy Speaker of Parliament Shakhwan Abdullah and Chairman of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee Ziyad al-Janabi. The meeting focused on mediation efforts to resolve the crisis of the region's employees' salaries, in accordance with constitutional legal procedures.

According to a statement from the Iraqi Parliament received by Shafaq News Agency, the meeting discussed the relationship between the central government and the region within constitutional and legal frameworks, the need to neutralize the issue of employee salaries, and the need to resolve it without political disputes. Solutions should be discussed in a friendly atmosphere, away from political escalation.

According to the statement, both sides expressed full readiness to initiate a serious dialogue on this crisis, and for the House of Representatives to play a key role in bringing the parties together on solutions proposed by the Erbil and central governments to achieve a harmonious administrative relationship free from political repercussions. Solutions have been reached and will be discussed in the coming days.

Al-Mashhadani stressed, "In these sensitive circumstances, we need unity to resolve outstanding issues, and the central government will seriously address any practical proposals to resolve the crisis. He explained that we stand with the Kurdish citizen because he is part of the Iraqi people, just as is the case with the citizens of all Iraqi provinces."

Earlier today, Mahmoud al-Mashhadani and Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani discussed the Kurdistan Region's employee pay crisis and the search for a final solution. They agreed to submit serious proposals to the federal government.

In another meeting today, Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani agreed not to involve the issue of salaries for public sector employees and workers in the region in any political disputes between Erbil and Baghdad.

The Kurdistan Regional Government's Council of Ministers confirmed last Wednesday the implementation of all federal government obligations regarding the region's oil exports through SOMO, and the transfer of sales proceeds to the federal Ministry of Finance. The Council called on Baghdad to end the "policy of depriving" Kurdistan citizens of their salaries.

The Kurdistan Region's employee salary crisis is one of the most contentious issues between Baghdad and Erbil, amid ongoing debate over oil exports, constitutional obligations, and fiscal policies. This makes the upcoming meetings between the two sides pivotal in breaking the current political and financial deadlock.

They have a lot of older steps coming forward very close to the timing of this new budget period...they're about to approve the budget amendments.

Some of the long-awaited items they're waiting for do require the rate change and they do suggest they're about to come forward in very close proximity, maybe during the second half of July...

Vietnam records 7.5% growth in the first half of 2025

7/5/2025

Vietnam announced on Saturday that its economy grew by 7.52 percent in the first half of 2025, its highest growth rate in more than a decade.
This strong growth comes just days after Vietnam avoided the toughest "reciprocal" tariffs threatened by US President Donald Trump on its exports.
"Gross domestic product (GDP) in the first six months of 2025 rose by 7.52 percent compared to the same period last year, the highest level for the first six months of the 2011-2025 period," the General Statistics Office said in a statement.
The country achieved 7.96 percent growth in the second quarter compared to the same period last year, its highest second-quarter growth rate since 2022, when it reached 8.56 percent. Hanoi has targeted annual growth of at least 8 percent.

“Our country’s social and economic performance in the second quarter and first six months of 2025 achieved very positive results, approaching the set target amidst numerous uncertainties surrounding the global and regional economy,” the General Statistics Office said in a statement.
Under the trade agreement with the United States, announced this week, Vietnam negotiated a reduction in tariffs from 46 percent to a minimum of 20 percent in exchange for opening its market to American products.
Vietnam has the third-largest trade surplus with the United States after China and Mexico and has been targeted with one of the highest rates in the US president’s tariff campaign.

TIDBIT FROM MILITIAMAN: The citizens have a national card for internal use in dinar

 Militia Man

The citizens have a national card for internal use in dinar.  That's just like us in the United States.  When you go buy a candy bar you buy some M&M's what do you spend?  You spend dollars....

These cards they use are reducing the note count which IMV...is something that will benefit in a time of a redenomination or a revaluation.

I think in this particular case we're going to see something to the effect of drop the three zeros and then they will apply a real effective exchange rate.

Al-Hassan from Karbala: Iraq is not a poor country and is open to foreign investment.

7/5/2025

- Karbala

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, Mohammed Al-Hassan, praised Iraq's policy of disassociation from recent conflicts in the region on Saturday, stressing that the country is now open to foreign investment to improve its economic situation.

"What I witnessed in Karbala today is a vivid picture of a united Iraq," Al-Hassan said in a joint press conference with Karbala Governor Nassif Jassim Al-Khattabi, attended by a Shafaq News Agency correspondent. "What we witnessed embodies the meaning of national belonging, and that this belonging is above all considerations." He added, "The stability achieved in Iraq did not come by chance, but is the fruit of a collective will and precious sacrifices."

He stressed that "Iraq is not a poor country, but rather a country of goodness, with trained, educated and cultured human resources, not only at home but also abroad. Iraq has scientists of both genders, even at NASA, and they are distinguished." He added that "Iraq has distanced itself from the surrounding political problems, and in light of that, we only expect to see a strong Iraq with a regional and global standing."

Al-Hassan continued, saying, "Iraq's message now is no longer one of war and conflict, but rather one of peace, construction, progress, and development," noting that "Iraq is safe, secure, and open to foreign and international investment."
