Al-Sudani government asks parliament to amend paragraph on Kurdistan Region oil

Iraqi Parliament member Muthanna Amin said on Saturday that the federal government has asked the council to amend a paragraph in the draft budget law for the year 2025.

Amin said in a statement to reporters today in Erbil that the legislative recess of the Iraqi parliament will end on January 10, and one of the most important tasks that it will accomplish during the coming period is the ratification of the draft budget law for next year.

He added that the federal government requested amending a paragraph in the budget, which is related to the Kurdistan Region's oil and estimating the financial costs of extracting crude oil, noting that an initial agreement was reached between the oil companies and the Kurdistan Regional Government in this regard, and what the regional government will present will be confirmed in the draft law of the country's general budget for the year 2025.

Regarding the legislative elections in Iraq, Amin stated: “Next year, the legislative term of the Iraqi Council of Representatives will end in its current session,” adding: “The current term of the Council cannot be extended, and legislative elections must be held in the country two months before the end of the parliament’s term.”

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani stressed the necessity of unifying discourse and positions in a way that enhances political stability.

The Prime Minister's Media Office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani met today, Friday, with the Speaker of the Council of Representatives Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, and during the meeting, the need to unify the discourse and positions was emphasized, in a way that enhances political and social stability in the country, and the importance of cooperation between the executive and legislative authorities and integration in their work, in addition to working to legislate laws that support the government's programs to improve the economic and living conditions of citizens."
He added: "The meeting also discussed developments in the regional situation, especially what is happening in Syria, and the importance of respecting the will of its people and supporting regional and international efforts to restore stability in it, and not to undermine its territorial integrity."

Delegation from US Department of Treasury visit the CBI

Announcement from Central Bank of Iraq – Dec 26 2024 Delegation from US department of treasury visited the central bank of Iraq, the delegation expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the procedures taken by the CBI during last year in the operations of combating the financing of terrorism and money laundering.  

The delegation “”praised CBI’s electronic programs that was used for the first time and showed their astonishment for the speed and competency in using those programs also their admiration with the criteria placed by the bank with the help of international audit office (KPMG) which related to organizing Dollar selling operations and its monitor during the compliance of all banks to rules of combating the financing of terrorism and money laundering”” No. 39 for the year 2015. 

Also the delegation listened to detailed explanation on the electronic system which applied by the CBI to monitor sold Dollar movement, and discussed CBI’s vast training program which will start soon and aims to train and qualify CBI’s employees working in monitoring and supervising field.
