New weekly feeder service launched between Iraq and UAE
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – In an effort to improve its operational footprint and connection in the Middle East, Pacific International Lines (PIL) has announced the start of a new weekly feeder service that will connect Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates to Umm Qasr in Iraq.
PIL’s current Gulf China Service (GCS) will be enhanced by the Iraq Feeder Service (IQF), enhancing the company’s regional services, according to Logistics Manager, a trade publication for the transport and logistics industry.
Starting on November 15, 2024, the IQF service will use the vessel Kota Handal and offer an independent path that improves connection between the Middle East and PIL’s vast worldwide network.
“The IQF service is intended to expand and strengthen PIL’s presence in the Middle East while leveraging the region’s growth potential,” said William Ho, General Manager of Long Haul Trade and Line Management at PIL.
The plan demonstrates PIL’s dedication to putting its clients’ needs first and broadening its reach in this important sector, according to Ho.
With a weekly sailing schedule and a two-day transit time from Jebel Ali to Umm Qasr, the IQF service’s primary features will greatly improve shipping efficiency for clients doing business in the region.
In order to ensure that commodities effectively reach their final destination, feeder services serve as the crucial link between larger, ocean-going vessels and smaller ports that are inaccessible to the larger ships.
Basically, feeder services provide a smooth integration into the global supply chain by moving cargo containers from a major port to smaller ports or the other way around.
Feeder services are essential to the shipping and logistics sector because they maintain the efficiency and mobility of the global supply chain.
These services make use of feeder vessels, which are smaller container ships built to move goods between big hub ports and smaller, regional ports.
Kurdistan’s Duhok to complete population census by midnight
Shafaq News/ The population census process in Duhok, Kurdistan Region, is nearing completion, the head of the province's Statistics Directorate, Jiavan Abdul-Razzaq, announced on Friday.
Abdul-Razzaq told Shafaq News, "The process is nearly complete and will finish tonight," adding, "No citizen has been excluded from registration."
Regarding families not yet visited by census teams, the official urged citizens to "call hotline 567" but advised them to "check if enumerators are in their area before calling," due to high demand.
On technical issues, the province's Statistics Directorate explained, “Most issues with the census tablets have been resolved, with malfunctioning devices replaced…The remaining areas are in central Duhok, and the process is expected to conclude by midnight.”
Iraq's population census process, which started on November 20, will conclude tonight. This census marks the first such undertaking since 1987, when all provinces participated. A census in 1997 excluded the Kurdistan Region. For decades, Iraq relied on unofficial estimates from research centers, with the Planning Ministry estimating the population at over 42 million in 2022.
