UrgentSouth Korea begins supplying Iraq with an advanced air system in early 2025
{Politics: Euphrates News} The government spokesman announced the start of supplying the air defense system from South Korea early next year.
“Korea will provide us with advanced military systems early next year,” Al-Awadi said in a televised statement on Monday evening.
He added that “the government is working to develop and strengthen air defense capabilities and has allocated billions of dollars to enhance this system and this will be achieved in a year or less.”
Al-Awadi pointed out that “the penetration of the Zionist entity into the atmosphere of Iraq to target Iran is a sinful aggression.”
Iraq contracted with a South Korean company last September to buy the ballistic air and missile defense system.
South Korea’s LG Nix One said on September 20 that it had won a deal under which it is scheduled to export the Korean-made ballistic air defense system to Iraq.
The company specializing in the manufacture of advanced weapons systems said in a notice that it had signed a deal with the Iraqi Ministry of Defense worth $2.78 billion to export the “Chiongong-2” system, also known as the South Korean air defense system “M-SAM2”.
This becomes the third country in the Middle East to buy a ballistic air and missile defense system after the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
This system is the focus of South Korea’s missile defense strategy designed to intercept future missiles and aircraft primarily for protection from North Korean threats.
The missiles and the integrated system of the M-SAM2 system are manufactured by LIG NX One, Hanhua Systems provides radar, and Hanhua Aerospace manufactures rocket launchers and vehicles.
Chiongong-2 is a medium-range surface-to-air defense system, developed based on 9M96 missile technology used in Russian missile systems.
