Parliament Finance: The Council of Ministers will vote today on the 2024 budget schedules

 The Parliamentary Finance Committee announced today, Tuesday, that the Council of Ministers will vote in today’s session on the budget schedules for the year 2024. 

The head of the committee, Atwan Al-Atwani, said in a statement followed by Mawazine News, “We look forward to resolving this file as quickly as possible and sending the schedules to the House of Representatives to vote on them in order to begin... The process of reconstruction, construction and development within the framework of the government program.”

Al-Atwani stressed "the commitment to implement the provisions and paragraphs of the Federal General Budget Law for the years (2023-2025), and to include its financial allocations in this year's schedules, especially with regard to appointments and contracts that were not implemented during 2023, and other rights that affect the lives of citizens."  

He stressed "supporting and empowering the governorates to implement their service plans and development programs and completing the requirements for including strategic projects in a way that achieves a qualitative leap in the level of providing services to citizens."

  Question:  Mark, do you see May 8th rumor that (the WTO entrance) as a hard date that Iraq cannot go past without announcing their new rate?

  MarkZ:  I hate to give dates…but there is a good chance it could go before then.

   Question: What does your gut say?  My gut is pretty mad we are not done already…but I feel that there is a good chance before the 9th of May. There is a lot expected to happen over the next few days.

Question:  Did Kuwait revalue over night? 

 MarkZ:  I believe they revalued mid morning. Around 10:30 or 11:00... I am confident it was daytime because the very same day it revalued…they ran articles in the papers that they were not ready to RV for months…maybe years. Then “BAM” they released it. That’s why I warn you guys about all the smoke and mirrors…Don’t jump off a cliff when you see stories like that.  Just wait.

 Iraq wanted to de-dollarize.  They start de-dollarizing in January but it didn't work for them too much.  

The government didn't expect that to happen even by telling them that the dinar are stronger...use the dinar instead of the dollar for the benefits of the country.  They tried everything.  Now, they said that plan didn't work so they come out to the new white paper...They realized they cannot do nothing without changing the exchange rate.

 They're going to have to go down in the exchange rate for the de-dollarization...They're going to have to change their exchange rate...Between now and 8th of July we should have an answer... 

what they going to do?  Are they going to change the exchange rate...keep it the same...go up...go down? 

 I think they're going to have to go down on the exchange rate a lot for them to take off the dollar from the street.

The government hires an external auditor for the Trade Bank of Iraq

Mawazine News – Baghdad
The Council of Ministers announced, today, Tuesday, the approval of contracting with an external auditor for the Trade Bank of Iraq; For the purpose of auditing the bank accounts.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office received by Mawazine News stated, “Within the framework of financial and administrative reform decisions, and what is related to reforming the banking sector, the Council approved, according to the statement, what was recorded in the letter of the Prime Minister’s Office on April 3, 2024, regarding contracting with an auditor.” External to the Iraqi Trade Bank, for the purpose of auditing the bank’s accounts, as the bank deals with a network of reputable international banks.”
Today, Tuesday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani chaired the eighteenth regular session of the Council of Ministers.
