His Excellency the President of the Republic, Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received today, Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Peace Palace in Baghdad, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Dr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and the Assistant Secretary-General, Mr. Hossam Zaki.
During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in the political, security and economic situation in the Arab arena, and Iraq’s relationship with the Arab League, and sisterly Arab countries and their development mechanisms. Mr. President stressed that Iraq, based on its pivotal role, seeks to strengthen its relations with neighboring countries and the world based on mutual respect for sovereignty, security and independent decision, in a way that achieves mutual and common interests.
His Excellency also stressed Iraq’s keenness to bring the views of brotherly and friendly countries closer together and to adopt constructive dialogue in resolving and addressing crises in a way that consolidates security and peace at the regional and international levels.
The President of the Republic pointed to the need to reach a common vision to end the crises suffered by a number of Arab countries, indicating the importance of unifying positions towards the challenges facing the peoples.
His Excellency the President touched on the situation in Palestine, stressing that Iraq’s people and government stand with the Palestinian people to achieve all their legitimate rights approved by international legitimacy, and urged the international community to exert efforts for the immediate cessation of aggression and increase humanitarian assistance to the besieged Palestinian families, and stressed the need for diligent work to stop the continuous escalation, which has become repercussions on the countries of the region in general.
The President of the Republic welcomed the Arab delegations participating in the Arab Labor Conference, stressing that Iraq is the country of all and embraces its brothers in order to embody its message in strengthening and consolidating cooperation.
His Excellency expressed his wishes to the conference success and come up with recommendations that serve the fundamental issues facing brotherly countries in providing job opportunities for young energies and upgrading the reality of work and workers.
In turn, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States expressed his happiness to visit Baghdad, praising the continuous development that Iraq is witnessing in enhancing its security and stability, as well as improving economic and service conditions.
He also praised Iraq’s important role in developing and consolidating joint Arab action, and its quest to enhance the rapprochement between countries and its contributions to supporting the work of the Arab League, and its standing with its Palestinian brothers.
Aboul Gheit added that the Arab League supports Iraq’s efforts in protecting its security and stability and in a way that secures the interests of the Iraqi people.
