IRAQI MINISTRY OF OIL ANNOUNCED THE SIGNING OF A CONTRACT WITH THE UKRAINIAN COMPANY TO DEVELOP THE GAS CRUTCH FIELD
Baghdad – Iraq Today:
The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced the signing of a contract with the Ukrainian company “Yukrzm Resources” to develop the gas crutch field at a rate of (400) mqmq.
Oil Minister Hayyan Abdul Ghani al-Sawad stressed in a press statement the importance of developing the Akkaz gas field in Anbar province to add 400 mqq (one million standard cubic feet per day) to national production, which aims to supply electric power plants with new quantities of natural gas.
This came during the minister’s patronage of the signing ceremony of the contract between the ministry, represented by the Central Oil Company, the North Oil Company, the Petroleum Contracts and Licensing Department, and the Ukrainian company UKRZEMRESURS, as well as his sponsorship of the contract for the waiver of the Korean company Kokaz in favor of the Ukrainian company.
The minister added that “the national effort in the Central Oil Company had earlier been able to operate the field within the accelerated plan to supply the gas crutch station at a rate of (60) mqmg.”
Al-Sawad pointed out that “the ministry aims, through the contract with the Ukrainian company, to reach an average of (100) mqmqm for the first stage of (1-2) years, and (400) maqqm within (4) years.”
The General Manager of the Central Oil Company, Mohammed Yassin Hassan, said: “Today we witnessed the assignment of the Korean company Kokaz to the Ukrainian company to implement and invest the Akkaz field project, which represents an important step towards gas investment, especially in the western region because of the large gas reserves that this region holds, and we are working to invest it optimally, to supplement the national network with new gas energy that contributes to supporting the energy sector in Iraq and enhances national production.”
(I wonder if this was one of the deals made in Washington during Al- Sudani’s visit. Ukrainian company? Go figure. But remember these former satellite countries use mostly natural gas as their source of energy. I does not surprise me that Ukraine would have the high level of expertise in this field. Can Iraq even maybe export this gas some day with their surplus, yet anoher export item?)
