The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government meets with the US Secretary of State
• The United States considers attacks on the Kurdistan Region a serious threat
Today, Tuesday, January 16, 2024, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, met with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
At the beginning of the meeting, the US Secretary of State expressed his strong condemnation of the missile attack that targeted Erbil, stressing that it is a blatant violation of Iraqi sovereignty, and expressed his country’s condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of the attack.
Blinken reiterated that the United States and President Joe Biden consider these attacks on the Kurdistan Region a serious threat, and that they are taking what is necessary to maintain the security and stability of the region.
The US Secretary of State also expressed his greetings, respect and appreciation to President Masoud Barzani.
The Prime Minister stressed that these attacks are unjustified and illegal, and the international community must not remain silent regarding these attacks.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the importance of resolving controversial issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government in a way that guarantees the constitutional rights of the region.
