USA called Iraq and told them to hurry up with the budget
The Foreign Relations Committee of the Iraqi Parliament responded on Thursday to the statements of the US State Department regarding the urging of the parliament to speed up the vote on the budget to resolve the dispute between Baghdad and Erbil.
Committee member Mukhtar Al-Moussawi told Shafaq News that "the statements of the US Department of State are rejected and this interference in the internal Iraqi affairs regarding the budget and others is a blatant and unacceptable intervention, and it cannot be silenced and must be officially rejected by the competent government bodies as well as the House of Representatives and political actors."
Al-Moussawi added that "the dispute between Baghdad and Erbil, finance and oil is an internal file, and it is not correct to intervene any external party, this increases the differences, and therefore the US State Department should not intervene," stressing that "this intervention is unacceptable and any attempt to pressure the media and others have not and will not be useful with the Iraqi legislative institution."
On Wednesday, the US State Foreign Affairs urged the Iraqi parliament to speed up the passage of the federal budget to Iraq.
"We have worked with the Iraqi federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government to reach a permanent budget agreement that will facilitate sustainable oil production in the Kurdistan Region," US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a press briefing at the ministry's headquarters.
“We have seen the budget amendment review this week and we urge its rapid adoption,” Miller added.
The Finance Committee of the Iraqi Council of Representatives met last Saturday with Finance Minister Taif Sami to discuss the proposed amendments to some clauses of the 2025 budget law, including issues related to the oil file, salaries and the budget of the Kurdistan Region.
Last Monday, the Iraqi parliament ended the review and discussion of the second reading of the draft law on the first amendment to the federal budget law.
