Washington is concerned about Baghdad sinking.. Waltz tells Al-Sudani: Trump's pressure on Tehran will increase

3/9/2025

US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz confirmed that pressure on Iran will increase if it continues to develop nuclear weapons capabilities and "support terrorism throughout the region," including in Iraq.

This came in a special post by Waltz on his account on the X platform, following talks he held with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani.

Waltz expressed his concerns about the recent floods in Baghdad.

He also stressed the importance of moving towards strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries based on security and trade interests.

The US National Security Advisor noted that the decision not to renew the waiver on sanctions on Iranian electricity exports is consistent with President Trump's "maximum pressure" strategy on Iran, and that pressure on Iran will increase if Iran continues to develop nuclear weapons capabilities and support terrorism throughout the region, including in Iraq.

He welcomed "Al-Sudani's efforts to achieve energy independence for Iraq, and encouraged his government to welcome more Western and American energy companies into Iraq's oil and gas sectors."

The National Security Advisor also urged the Iraqi government to work with the Kurdistan Regional Government to resolve contract disputes and pay arrears owed to American energy companies, and also asked the Iraqi government to maintain an investment coordinator to work with American companies seeking to invest and operate in Iraq.

The National Security Advisor thanked the Prime Minister for his commitment to the U.S.-Iraq bilateral relationship and emphasized the Trump administration’s commitment to deepening energy and economic ties between the two countries to the benefit of the American and Iraqi people.

A statement from Al-Sudani's office stated that the latter and Waltz affirmed their commitment to strengthening and deepening the strategic partnership between Iraq and the United States, while Waltz indicated that "ending the exemption of electricity supplied from Iran is linked to the maximum pressure policy, which confirms the importance of bilateral coordination to avoid any potential negative effects on Iraq's stability."

The US waiver on sanctions on Iran that Iraq was granted ended on Saturday (March 8, 2025), and thus the Baghdad government will not be able to import Iranian gas needed to operate power plants across the country.

The US State Department confirmed on Sunday the end of exemptions that allowed Iraq to buy electricity from Iran, as part of the "maximum pressure" policy pursued by the administration of President Donald Trump against Tehran.

Washington stressed its refusal to provide any economic relief to Iran, noting that the goal is to end the Iranian nuclear threat, limit its missile program, and prevent its support for armed groups.

For many years, Iraq has relied on importing electricity and gas from Iran, especially during the peak of summer, and thus relies on the ongoing American exemptions, which are issued more than once each year.

In October 2024, Iraq signed an agreement with Turkmenistan to import gas in quantities of up to 20 million cubic meters per day, via the Iranian pipeline network, using the swap mechanism to facilitate transportation, but it has not yet started operating due to technical problems, as the Ministry of Electricity recently announced.

In statements made by representatives to Shafaq News Agency, the Deputy Chairman of the Electricity Committee in the Iraqi Parliament, Walid Al-Sahlani, confirmed that the interruption of Iranian gas will cause the loss of 8,000 megawatts from the country's electricity system.

Meanwhile, the spokesman for the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee, Ali Shaddad, revealed the Iraqi government’s intention to import Gulf gas instead of Iranian gas after the recent US sanctions, announcing a project that is being worked on at high speed in Basra, in the far south of the country.

It was last month that Sudani said right around the middle of February that at the end of February we will bring the budget tables...Then towards the end of last month he says I'm going to do it at the beginning of March...On the 3rd of March he comes out and he says I'm going to do this at the middle of March...

Here we are headed towards the middle of March in about another week and he just made an announcement...he says I'm going to expose the budget tables at the end of March...

We went from the end of February to the beginning of March, to the middle of March...What is April 1st

End of quarter.  What did Dr. Shabibi want when he wanted to release the new exchange rate?  The beginning or end of a year or the beginning of a quarter...

Mechanism for publishing data on buying and selling foreign currencies, 11 march

Mechanism for publishing data on buying and selling foreign currencies

The Central Bank of Iraq explains the mechanism for publishing data on the sale and purchase of foreign currencies from the daily bulletin to the monthly report, which will include:

- Total enhancement of bank balances abroad.
- Settlements of electronic payments abroad.
- Cash sales.

The bank confirms that this decision came in conjunction with the transition from the electronic platform mechanisms to the mechanisms for enhancing the balances of authorized Iraqi banks with correspondent banks, and that the process of enhancing banks does not reflect the daily sales of bank customers until the operations are actually realized.

It draws attention to the Central Bank of Iraq's possession of sufficient foreign reserves to meet all official requests for foreign currency, which enhances confidence in the national currency.
Noting that the report scheduled to be published next month will include details of external transfer operations

in terms of (amounts, the most prominent imported goods and materials, the most prominent countries from which they were imported.

Aki says...due to what the GOI and CBI are instructing us, I am moving my family to the city where the bank is where me and my boss work.

The reason why is due to the fact that my boss told me you're going to be very busy very soon.

[Aki] is bringing his family from the state that he lives in, he's bringing them down south [of that state] to be closer to this bank that he's in charge of...

Aki must have a very good idea of this true time frame because he's moving his family to the bank's location.

This target date has to be IMO within arms reach...

Disagreements paralyze the Iraqi parliament in Ramadan...the boycott continues, 11 march

Disagreements paralyze the Iraqi parliament in Ramadan...the boycott continues

Independent Iraqi parliament member Jawad al-Yasari said on Tuesday that the parliament session will not be held due to the continued boycott of the sessions by most of the representatives, in protest against the failure to include the service and retirement law for the Popular Mobilization Authority on the agenda .

Al-Yasari told Shafaq News Agency, "The indicators confirm that the parliament session for today, Tuesday, will not be held, as happened in previous sessions, due to the continued boycott of most of the representatives, especially from the Coordination Framework blocs, of the sessions in protest against the failure to put the service and retirement law of the Popular Mobilization Authority to a vote."

He added, "Holding a parliament session during the month of Ramadan seems difficult in light of the ongoing political disputes and conflicts, which means that the sessions will remain suspended until after the Eid al-Fitr holiday, until an agreement is reached between the political parties on passing the law."

The Iraqi Parliament is expected to hold its regular session today, with the agenda including several topics, including voting on the draft law amending the fourth amendment to the Industrial Investment Law for the Private and Mixe d Sectors No. 20 of 1998, in addition to voting on a decision to recommend to the Ministry of Education to reinstate the trial system .

The Council is also scheduled to discuss the report of the interim parliamentary committee to follow up on the preservation of state property, the first reading of the draft law to cancel the law ratifying the agreement exempting holders of diplomatic and service passports from entry visas between Iraq and Cyprus, and the first reading of the proposed law amending the second law of the Mukhtars Law No. 13 of 2011 .

The agenda also includes a report and discussion of the second reading of the proposed fourth amendment to Law No. 6 of 2000 on the Progression of Medical and Health Professionals .

It is noteworthy that the independent MP, Hussein Al-Saabari, revealed to Shafaq News Agency, last Sunday, that there is a tendency to dissolve the Iraqi Parliament and go to early elections, in the event that its sessions continue to be disrupted .

The House of Representatives is witnessing a continuous disruption of its sessions, due to the lack of a legal quorum to hold them, despite announcing the agenda and setting the date of the session . link

TIDBIT FROM BREITLING, 11 MARCH

 Breitling

Very basic.  It is an inflated inflation.  The inflation was created by how many notes they printed.

They are producing more oil when it was worth $2 to $3 a pop...According to General Hugh Tant at one time it was legitimately worth $3.  Look at their oil production then, their economy then, the amount of notes they had.  They have more customers, producing more oil.  All those boxes check off.

So what is keeping the value of the dinar down?

It is the amount of notes that are out in circulation.  That's it.  That's all it is.  Iraq has the opportunity call in those notes and add value to its currency.

AJ : 🔥 Pipeline to Turkey’s Ceyhan port UPDATE!, 11 MARCH

AJ

🔥 Pipeline to Turkey’s Ceyhan port 🔥 Baghdad is now suggesting it will make nice with the Turkey by giving them Basra oil and cutting the Kurds out. Iraq-Iraqi Kurdistan export talks ended this week without any resolution, leaving Kurdish oil stranded indefinitely. The three parties to the talks–Iraq, Iraqi Kurdistan (KRG) and Turkey–were quick to say that a new round of talks was expected next week, but no one’s holding their breath. The talks were to finally restart crude exports from Iraqi Kurdistan, which had been offline over disputes about export rights and the federal budget, as well as over Turkey’s receipt of Kurdish oil that bypassed the Iraqi federal government. Baghdad has won this war, but it’s getting greedy now. The talks failed because Baghdad suddenly suggested it might export Basra oil from southern Iraq through the Turkey Ceyhan port. This will be seen as a major insult to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). The KRG was exporting its oil via pipeline to Turkey’s Ceyhan port. While it remains unclear, it appears that Baghdad is now suggesting it will make nice with the Turks by giving them Basra oil and cutting the Kurds out. 🚩IMO, there are a lot of power plays going on over this, so sit tight and see how it plays out. I've traded crude oil for years and have watched this drama unfold for years. Like the article said, no one's holding their breath.
