Shafaq News/ The Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, chaired, this evening, Wednesday, a meeting of the Ministerial Council for National Security, during which the latest developments in the security situation in Iraq were discussed, the topics on the agenda were discussed, and recommendations were made regarding them.
According to a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, the meeting witnessed an extensive presentation of the recent attacks that affected Iraq, and constituted a flagrant violation of Iraqi sovereignty, and the need to take all necessary political, diplomatic and security measures to protect Iraq’s sovereignty and maintain its security was emphasized.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces stressed the importance of strengthening security throughout the country, as it constitutes a necessity to enable the government to implement its plans for development and reconstruction, and this matter cannot be tolerated at all, stressing the need for all security forces to be vigilant and beware of the infiltration of the remnants of ISIS terrorist gangs, and their exploitation of developments. This comes after the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs received, today, Wednesday, a letter it described as “important” from the American government, conveyed by Ambassador Elena Romanski, indicating that the Prime Minister “will study this message.”
This came after US Army drones launched strikes on two headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces in Babil and Anbar governorates, killing two members and wounding four.
A statement by the American forces indicated that these strikes targeted the headquarters of the Hezbollah Brigades, warehouses, missile training sites, and unilateral attack drones.
