A surprise meeting in Riyadh: Trump and Sharaa face to face
5/12/2025
The British newspaper "The Times" reported on Monday that a meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Syrian counterpart, Ahmed al-Sharaa, is likely to take place in Saudi Arabia.
The newspaper revealed that Sharaa is scheduled to meet with Trump as part of a group that includes Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.
She added that the meeting would be an opportunity for the Syrian president to pressure for the lifting of US sanctions imposed on his country.
She emphasized that this pressure could be met with "several concessions, including allowing American companies to exploit natural resources in a mineral deal similar to what happened in Ukraine."
Syria is struggling to ease US sanctions, which keep the country isolated from the global financial system and make economic recovery extremely difficult after a devastating 14-year war.
In a sign of a possible shift in Washington's policy, Trump said Monday that he might ease US sanctions.
"We'll have to make a decision about sanctions," Trump told reporters. "We may lift them on Syria because we want to give them a fresh start."
The Times reported, citing security sources, that Sharaa may also offer to "hold talks on joining the Abraham Accords."
She continued: "(Al-Shara'a) may be willing to establish a demilitarized zone or allow Israel to maintain a security presence in southwestern Syria, where Israeli forces have established a buffer zone next to the Golan Heights, an area it occupied in 1967."
However, there appears to be a split among Trump's senior advisors over the merits of meeting with Sharaa.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard is among those understood to remain cautious about the meeting and may try to prevent it, according to the same source.
Others, including US envoy Steve Witkoff, are believed to be more supportive of the meeting, recognizing Trump's willingness to abandon protocol and tradition to strike deals, according to The Times.
FIREFLY:IMF did meet with Iraq and Alaq and saying they are backing Iraq. It's because of the non-oil...IMF is seeking we have a lot more non-oil revenues now, which is good, required by IMF in case oil drops we have backup.
FRANK:
Not only is the IMF impressed but so is the whole world because they know Iraq does not just have oil to back up their exchange rate. Now the whole world knows they have so much more. That's why everybody is pouring into Iraq.
They know exactly what's happening with the monetary reform. The IMF is also very giddy and very happy because they are going to give them permission to go ahead and pull the trigger...

Exclusive - Qaani asked Baghdad to include "Iran's wishes" on the Arab Summit agenda.
5/14/2025
Informed source revealed on Wednesday that the visit of the commander of the Iranian Quds Force, Esmail Qaani, to Baghdad carried several issues, most notably his country's desire for Arab support to lift the siege on it, and to include its demands in the official agenda of the Arab Summit, which will be held in a few days.
The source told Shafaq News Agency, "One of the most important issues that Qaani discussed with National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji was the joint border security issue between the two countries, specifically the mechanism for implementing the provisions of the security agreement concluded between Baghdad and Tehran in 2023."
The source added, "Qaani will discuss the Iranian-American negotiations with Baghdad and will also hold meetings with leaders of the Coordination Framework, possibly one-on-one, to brief them on all the details and information regarding the course of the negotiations between his country and the United States, in addition to other information regarding these agreements and their impact on the security and stability of the region."
He continued, "Iran seeks Arab support for lifting the blockade and moving toward a nuclear agreement more quickly, as well as genuine guarantees from the United States that the agreement will remain valid, especially since there is an Arab consensus to end the Iranian nuclear program, especially since Arab countries do not want any tension in the region."
He stressed that "Iran proposed including its desires in the official agenda of the Baghdad Summit," noting that "Iran seeks to activate a security, economic, and political partnership with Iraq, and that Qaani's visit to Baghdad is part of Iran's efforts to deliver these messages to the United States to emphasize the importance of the partnership between the two countries."
The commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps' Quds Force, Esmail Qaani, arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday for an official visit. He met with Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji. According to the official statement, the two sides discussed ways to develop Iraqi-Iranian relations, joint efforts to secure the border, and the stages of implementing the provisions of the security agreement between the two countries . They also stressed the importance of the success of the negotiations between Washington and Tehran, and the commitment of all parties to dialogue and de-escalation to achieve sustainable stability in the region .
Iraq is scheduled to host the current Arab Summit next Saturday, with diplomatic attendance from Arab delegations .
Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani agreed on Tuesday to unify the political discourse toward the Arab Summit in a positive manner, affirming support for the Palestinian cause and Gaza.
Iraq’s Trade Bank just passed JPMorgan Chase’s global systems test—scoring an impressive 99.68% on automated cross-border transfers.
This IS the green light.
Baghdad’s financial infrastructure has quietly stepped into elite territory:
• Dollar-clearing
• Euro-settlement
• Instant global payment rails
The revaluation is no longer a matter of if, it’s always been about the WHEN!
This proves the system is already live—just waiting for the switch.
And the timing? Impeccable:
• The week of the Baghdad 2025 Summit
• Iraq assuming regional leadership in economic policy
• Oil exports deliberately throttled
• IQD budget tables finalized and ready
• Trump securing trillion-dollar backing from Gulf partners
It’s coming.
This week.
It’s coming.
Iraq isn’t walking into their own summit as a third-world nation. The “when” was just revealed… it’s a matter of hosting their summit as a leader or a servant to the world. It’s all about pride at this point.
