UNAMI on Victory Day: Calls to rid Iraq of Da’esh remnants, extremism and fanaticism
Shafaq News/ On Monday, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) described Iraq's Victory Day as an “important milestone,” calling for the elimination of the remnants of ISIS.
“On the 10th of December, Iraq celebrates Victory Day, marking the liberation of its territory from the control of the terrorist group Dae’sh/ISIL. On this important milestone, we recall the great sacrifices of Iraqis to reclaim their land and establish security and stability throughout the country,” UNAMI stated.
It further affirmed that Victory Day underscores the importance of preserving the achievements made through the efforts of all Iraqis and their partners worldwide. “It is a call for all to consolidate national unity and to jointly work towards a strong Iraq that can confront challenges, and one that is free of the tensions and conflicts afflicting the region. ”
“On this occasion, we laud the achievements made since the territorial victory over terrorism,” it added, calling for “continued efforts to rid Iraq not only of the remnants of Dae’sh, but of all forms of extremism and fanaticism.”
UNAMI expressed its vision for a future Iraq where all citizens enjoy security, safety, respect for human rights, and the rule of law. “We look forward to the country turning the pages of the painful past for good by strengthening national reconciliation to maintain the gains achieved, and to focus on what unites and avoid what divides, including controversial topics that do not contribute to unifying the social fabric and cohesion among its components,” it said.
Addressing the return of displaced Iraqis, UNAMI expressed hope that "the joy of victory will be completed with the safe and dignified return of all those displaced by this conflict to their homes, and when all Iraqi citizens are repatriated from Al-Hol camp in northeast Syria and integrated into society." It also commended the efforts of the Iraqi government, supported by UNAMI and the UN Iraq Country Team, in tackling these issues.
“The United Nations reiterates its full support for the Government and people of Iraq in the restoration of sovereignty and control over their territory, and in achieving sustainable stability and development. Iraq has proven to the world that it is capable, through the solidarity of its people, of overcoming challenges and creating a brighter and more prosperous future for all its citizens,” UNAMI concluded.

Former MP: Mystery surrounds oil extraction contracts in Kurdistan
Former MP Mohammed Al-Shabaki confirmed today, Wednesday, that the Kurdistan Regional Government did not provide any information about its contracts with oil extraction companies from the fields it seizes.
Al-Shabaki said in an interview with Al-Maalouma Agency, "The ambiguity surrounds the contracts of oil companies with the Kurdistan Regional Government, which seizes the fields, and there is political controversy over this issue and questions about whether these contracts were concluded with the government's approval or not," indicating that "this issue will be included in the amendments to the financial budget law for next year."
He added, "A consulting company will audit these contracts to determine the cost of oil production in the Kurdistan Region and whether it exceeds $16 per barrel as the regional government claims or otherwise, because this information is not clear to the federal government, the Ministry of Oil, and the National Oil Marketing Company (SOMO)," indicating that "amending Article 12 of the budget, which is related to the cost of extracting Kurdistan oil, has no financial consequences."
It is noteworthy that the House of Representatives is witnessing a state of confusion regarding amending Article 12 of the Financial Budget Law, while representatives confirm that the Kurdistan Regional Government does not send any money from its oil and non-oil revenues despite receiving its share of the general budget.
