The Arab Tourism Organization announced on Tuesday the selection of Baghdad as the capital of Arab tourism for 2025.

The organization said in a statement, seen by “Economy News”, that it “ended its participation in the meeting of the 27th session of the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States and announces the selection of the city of Baghdad as the capital of Arab tourism for 2025,” noting that “this came after it passed the criteria prepared by the Arab Tourism Organization to choose the capital of Arab tourism.”

She added that “the standards were focused on tourism management indicators, tourism infrastructure, tourism resources, diversity of tourism patterns and activities, preserving and protecting the environment, responding to tourism developments, the desired results of tourism in the city, tourism safety, security and stability, and health safety,” noting that “the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism welcomed during its meeting held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States to choose Baghdad as the capital of Arab tourism for 2025.”

The President of the Arab Tourism Organization, Bandar bin Fahd Al Fahid, according to the statement, offered “congratulations and congratulations on this occasion to the President of the Iraqi Republic Abdullatif Rashid, to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, the Iraqi government and the sons of the great Iraq,” explaining that “the aim of choosing one of the Arab cities as the capital of Arab tourism came to develop the inter-Arab tourism movement while highlighting the distinctive specificity, customs and traditions of each city, and to highlight the tourist value of each city chosen and its role in supporting the Arab tourism industry, in addition to communicating with other cultures and civilizations.”

He stressed that “many events and programs will be implemented throughout 2025 in the capital Baghdad with the aim of developing Arab tourism between the Republic of Iraq and the region,” pointing out that “the organization will launch, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, a celebration to inaugurate Baghdad as the Arab capital of tourism for 2025 at the beginning of the year.”
