The fourth – Baghdad

Prime Minister’s adviser on oversight and integrity Moayed Al-Saadi confirmed on Friday that Iraq’s recovered funds were deposited at the Central Bank, pointing to the existence of a comprehensive plan to combat corruption and recover smuggled funds.

Al-Saadi said, according to the official agency, that “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani paid great attention and daily follow-up to anti-corruption measures, and worked in various directions,” pointing out that “teams have been formed to receive, follow up, disclose and refer news and reports of corruption to the Integrity and Public Prosecution Authority for the purpose of holding violators accountable, prosecuting them and recovering funds.”

He added that “among the trends that have been focused on is the periodic evaluation through the semi-annual and annual reports through the regulatory bodies that follow up the actions of ministries and governorates in the field of combating corruption on a daily basis, as well as the issue of digital transformation and the procedures of the unified storage system for the purpose of controlling and following up funds and knowing their movement of balances,” noting that “all these measures are in the fight against corruption.”

"RV UPDATE" BY MIKE BARA, 22 JUNE

💢Mike Bara: High WF banking sources are telling people who hold currency not to bother taking any contracts for work longer than a week or two — no matter how much money is involved.

We are almost there, folks…

💢 Gezelle, Liberty Lounger Extraordinaire, offers clarification for those who might be a little confused

➡️ They are advising not to take any contracts for work (self-employed people) for more than max 2 weeks.

💢 Update from Mike Bara 6.15.24

💢Mike: OK, I hate to be the Bara of bad tidings, but I just got info from "The Bondholder" — who is not a bond holder but a bond broker waiting to be paid commissions by the US government for bringing in historic bonds — to the effect that he won't be paid until Tuesday.

We were hoping he'd been paid already. This would clear the way for Tier 4B, us, to be paid out.

We were all hoping and waiting for some announcement or notifications this weekend.

That can still happen, but IMO we don't get paid until after guys like him get paid. So we wait... and hope.

After the Eid jump… a specialist predicts the dollar exchange rates in Iraq

Baghdad today – Baghdad

Economic expert Sirwan Abdel Rahman confirmed today, Friday (June 21, 2024), that the measures of the government and the central bank will contribute to reducing the price of the dollar again.

Abdul Rahman said in an interview with “Baghdad Today”, “The Central Bank’s measures reduced the chances of speculators and currency traders who wanted to exploit the crisis and raise the price of the dollar to more than 200 thousand dinars.”

He added, “The current price of the dollar is 145 thousand dinars, and if the Central Bank’s measures continue, especially in the issue of emphasizing the transfer of dollars except to those entitled to them, the price will fall in the parallel market and stabilize in the coming weeks at 140 thousand dinars.”

Since Eid al-Adha, the exchange rates of the dollar against the Iraqi dinar have risen until they exceeded 147 thousand dinars for every 100 dollars, after being below 145 thousand dinars during the past weeks.

"RV UPDATE" BY BRUCE, 22 JUNE

 Bruce

[via WiserNow]  We know that there's a lot going on behind the scenes.  One of our bankers - Wells Fargo said, Just hang in there...just hang in there a couple more days...So I'm excited...we will be able to look back at years of waiting and say, it was worth it.

..we thought the  Iraqi Budget for Iraq had been put in the Gazette last Saturday.  Well, come to find out it was NOT in the Gazette Saturday...So even though Iraq is trading up the value of the dinar – they really were not quite at the position of locking in that rate for us...but  I think based on the information we've had in the last few days...I believe they're ready for this thing to go.

World Bank: Spontaneous Gas Combustion Associated With Oil Production Is Rising

Arab and international  Economy News - follow up  A World Bank report revealed on Thursday that oil companies around the world burned the largest amount of natural gas associated with oil production last year in five years.

With only six years remaining to achieve the World Bank's goal of stopping spontaneous flaring of gas associated with oil production, companies burned an estimated 148 billion cubic meters of gas in 2023, an increase of seven percent from 2022, despite crude oil production rising only one percent during the same period. Period.

Natural gas is usually produced from oil exploration, and some companies choose to burn this gas instead of capturing and storing it because providing the necessary infrastructure to deal with it is not commercially viable.

The World Bank’s Global Monitoring Report on Spontaneous Gas Flaring stated that the growth in gas flaring has erased the effect of the reductions achieved in 2021 and 2022, and added that “global efforts to reduce spontaneous flaring of gas associated with oil production are not sustainable and there is a need to take urgent action.” ".

Eliminating this practice would reduce at least 381 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent from harmful emissions released into the atmosphere.

Nine major oil-producing countries account for 75 percent of gas flaring and 46 percent of oil production.

These countries are Russia, Iran, Iraq, the United States, Venezuela, Algeria, Libya, Nigeria and Mexico, according to the order of the quantities of gas burned.

The report stated that Algeria and Venezuela reduced spontaneous combustion, but these gains were eroded by Iran, Russia, the United States, Libya and other countries.

The World Bank, in cooperation with the Colorado School of Mines in the United States, relied on data from satellites to calculate spontaneous combustion data. Views 102  06/20/2024 - https://economy-news.net/content.php?id=44445
