Iraq Prepares for Possible Israeli Strikes Amid Regional Tensions, 6 OCT

ERBIL — The Iraqi federal government has announced new security and military measures in response to the potential threat of Israeli strikes.

Alaawi Bandawi, a member of Iraq's Council of Representatives, confirmed that Iraq is taking significant precautions in the coming days to prepare for any possible attacks by Israel, particularly given recent developments in Lebanon and Gaza.

Speaking to Shafaq News, Bandawi stated that Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani is personally overseeing these preparations and remains in continuous communication with military and security commanders. The measures, which extend to various governmental ministries, are being put in place following Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon and missile strikes from Iran targeting Israeli positions.

Although Bandawi did not provide specific details regarding the security and military measures, it is understood that the government is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared for any developments as tensions rise between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Additionally, Israeli retaliation against Iranian-linked militias has heightened concerns of further escalation in the region.
