Al-Haims Expects Lifting Of "Sanctions" On Iraqi Banks: No Violations Proven
Banks Economy News – Baghdad The Chairman of the Securities Commission, Faisal Al-Haims, confirmed that foreign auditing companies have not proven any violations against the sanctioned Iraqi banks, expecting the US sanctions to be lifted, especially after the Prime Minister’s recent visit to New York.
Al-Haims said, in a televised interview, which was viewed by “Al-Eqtisad News”, that “the Iraqi market needs a banking sector with global compliance standards in order to ‘survive’”, stressing that “the commission aims to increase the number of stock traders by 500%.”
He continued: "We were recently granted the authority to open new branches of the Iraq Stock Exchange, and we agreed to open two new branches in the governorates of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah. We are open and seek to expand the market's spread base and we will agree to any request to open a new branch if the legal conditions are met."
The Chairman of the Securities Commission confirmed: “We are working on promotional campaigns to introduce the function and benefits of investing in the Iraqi Stock Exchange, and the investment sectors in it as well, although the current efforts need greater momentum, but we seek to develop an effective strategy to increase the number of investors in the Iraqi Stock Exchange to 5 times their current number of more than 40 thousand investors, during the next two years.”
He pointed out that "foreign auditing companies have not proven any violations against the sanctioned Iraqi banks, and this is sufficient to lift the Federal sanctions, and we hope that the Prime Minister's visit to the United States will contribute in this direction."
He explained that "the Iraqi economy depends entirely on oil revenues and imports to meet local needs, which confirms the difficulty of living without an effective banking sector, and therefore there is no choice but to create a real banking movement that applies international compliance standards."
He explained that "there is a credit problem in private banks, as customers prefer government banks, despite the big difference in the quality and volume of services provided at the level of deposits and borrowing. However, the government banking sector takes over more than 70% of customers." 305 views 09/30/2024 - https://economy-news.net/content.php?id=48162

Al-Sadiqoun denounces Iraq’s failure to withdraw during Netanyahu’s speech at the United Nations, 1 OCT
The Al-Sadiqoun parliamentary bloc criticized the Iraqi representative’s failure to leave the United Nations General Assembly during Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech today, September 30, 2024. The Al-Sadiqoun parliamentary bloc believes that this is inconsistent with Iraq’s position against normalization or attendance at international forums where the entity has representatives.
The failure of the Iraqi representative, Ms. Sahar Al-Qaisi, to withdraw during the United Nations General Assembly meeting, during the speech of the usurping Zionist entity’s president, Benjamin Netanyahu, was strongly condemned by the Sadiqoun Bloc in a statement. This occurred at a time when the majority of representatives from nations around the world who reject the crimes and aggressive practices of this entity had already withdrawn.
The bloc believed that Iraq’s official and popular position, which has consistently stated its rejection of any normalization or presence in international forums where representatives of this illegitimate entity are present, was in complete contradiction with this behavior.
She said that Iraq’s historical position of supporting the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights cannot be ignored because it is seen as an unjustified concession and does not represent the Iraqi people’s will.
The Sadiqoun bloc urged the Iraqi government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to clarify their official position on this behavior and to hold accountable anyone who harms Iraq’s image in the eyes of the international community. The group also emphasized that Iraq takes a firm and supportive stance regarding the rights of the Palestinian people and that it opposes any normalization or interaction with this entity that engages in occupation and terrorism against Arab and Islamic peoples.
As a large portion of the hall was empty, delegations from numerous nations, including Turkey, Iran, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait, left. During Netanyahu’s speech, the hall also heard voices rising.
The majority of the Arab and Islamic delegations that boycotted Netanyahu’s speech before the United Nations General Assembly were shown in video clips with empty seats during the speech. The Israeli delegation attempted to overcome this embarrassment by deliberately applauding him continuously throughout his speech.

This guy’s only got 1/2 the picture...
CBI won’t just remove 3 0s without adjusting the nominal exchange rate and then adding purchasing power to the dinar —
a rate change to you and me, we might call it an RV, though their end game is reinstatement...
This guy is just referring to swapping out currency for Iraqis only. He’s not taking into account what happens to the dinar internationally...
To an Iraqi, removing 3 0’s is just taking old dinar out of circulation and replacing it with smaller bills/digital payments.
That’s why this guy is talking about a partial peg. The CBI is talking about a pure float.
He’s only looking at half the process. This article is addressed to Iraqis only. IMO of course.
