ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Iraqi Ministry of Finance has dispatched the April salaries for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)’s security forces.

On Sunday, June 9, a high-ranking source from the Iraqi Ministry of Finance informed Kurdistan24 that the full salaries for the Peshmerga and security forces of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG) for the month of April have been sent.

The funds will be deposited into the KRG’s Ministry of Finance and Economy account at the Erbil Branch of the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI).

“The Iraqi Ministry of Finance will make every effort to pay the salaries of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) security forces before Eid al-Adha,” the source stated.

For more than two months, the Iraqi Ministry of Finance had not dispatched any funds to the Peshmerga Ministry and the KRG security forces.

This delay was due to the Federal Ministry of Finance requesting a complete list of names and information of the KRG security force members. The KRG rejected this request and insisted on providing a coded list instead.

The Federal Board of Supreme Audit was scheduled to visit Erbil on Saturday to audit the salaries of the security forces as well as the Kurdistan Region’s expenditures and revenues.

Once the audit report is completed, the coded names will be sent to Baghdad to facilitate the payment of the security forces’ salaries. The report will be submitted to both the Iraqi and Kurdistan Regional governments.

During a ceremony to inaugurate “Eagle Post” center for post and delivery service, the Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani reassured that the government has been actively working with the federal government to resolve budget and salary issues fundamentally.

“We hope that the full salary of the security forces for the month of April and the salaries of all our citizens for the month of May to be distributed soon before the holidays,” Prime Minister Barzani announced, expressing optimism that salary issues would no longer dominate media headlines.

ERBIL — Israel is planning to strike Iranian-backed Iraqi militia groups following increased attacks against Israel in recent weeks.

Israeli media has confirmed reports that the Israeli military is planning extensive attacks on Iranian-backed groups in the region, especially in Iraq.

Furthermore, Iraqi sources have informed local media that almost certain strikes will target Iraqi militia groups inside the country. However, the sources declined to specify who will carry out these attacks.

On Thursday, Yemen’s Houthi group claimed responsibility for drone attacks on Israeli Haifa port. Their leader, Abdul Malik al-Houthi, stated that these attacks will increase with help from other resistance groups in Iraq.

Two drones hit targets, and US and Israeli defenses had to intercept many others, according to American officials and the Israeli military.

Israeli media reported that new weapons like cruise missiles, used more frequently since May, are harder for air defenses to destroy.

This threat follows an increase in rocket attacks on Israel by Iraqi factions in recent weeks, raising concerns in US and EU countries about potential Israeli retaliation and regional escalation, according to Israeli reports.

Last week, Hussein al-Mousawi, spokesperson for al-Nujaba, a faction of the “Islamic Resistance in Iraq,” stated that the strikes are a natural progression of the group’s role and aim to increase the cost of the war in Gaza.

Al-Mousawi added that they intend to strike Israel from any location as long as it is necessary.

Last week, a senior official in the resistance axis told Reuters that while Iran is keen for Iraqi factions to participate in the regional battle against Israel, the tendency of these factions to miscalculate remains a constant concern.

A delegation from the Iraqi Financial Supervision Bureau arrived on Saturday in Erbil Governorate, to check the list of salaries of the Peshmerga forces and the expenses and revenues of the past three months.

Kurdish media said that “the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Financial Supervision Bureau in the region asked the delegation to start first by checking the list of salaries of the security forces who have not received their salaries for more than two months.”
