🚨🇮🇶🇮🇷🇺🇸 IRAQ AT THE CENTER OF THE WAR: IS IRAN USING PRO-IRANIAN MILITIAS TO DRAG IRAQ INTO THE CONFLICT?
📌 NEWS SUMMARY
Iraq has ordered the closure of the Shalamcheh border crossing on its border with Iran following recent drone attacks against Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia says the drones that struck its strategic East-West oil pipeline were launched from Iraqi territory. The Iraqi government subsequently confirmed that the attacks originated inside Iraq and launched an investigation to identify those responsible.
Baghdad has also removed the military commander responsible for operations in Maysan province. 🇮🇶
⚠️ The incident is particularly significant because the Saudi pipeline is strategically important: it allows Saudi Arabia to transport oil without relying entirely on the Strait of Hormuz, which has become a major pressure point during the US-Iran conflict.
🔎 WHAT COULD BE BEHIND THIS?
This is where the situation becomes much more dangerous.
Iraq is home to several powerful Shiite militias closely aligned with Iran. Some belong to what is commonly described as the Islamic Resistance in Iraq and have the capability to launch drones and missiles against US interests and other regional targets.
At the same time, the Iraqi government has been trying to force these armed groups to surrender their weapons or fully submit to state authority.
Several powerful militias are resisting.
According to Reuters, some of these groups maintain strategic relationships with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and have participated in attacks against US targets during the current conflict.
💣 AND THIS IS WHERE THE BIGGEST RISK APPEARS
The chain of events could potentially look like this:
🇮🇷 Iran continues its confrontation with the United States.

⚔️ Pro-Iranian militias operate from inside Iraq.
⬇️
🚁 Attacks are launched against US interests or US allies such as Saudi Arabia.
⬇️
🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia responds or asks Washington for support.
⬇️
🇺🇸 The United States could strike militia positions inside Iraq.
⬇️
🇮🇶 Iraq becomes directly caught in the war.
🔥 And that is precisely the scenario Baghdad is desperately trying to avoid.
We cannot currently say that Iran directly ordered the attack against the Saudi oil infrastructure. There is no publicly available evidence proving that.
But the combination of facts is extremely concerning:
➡️ The attack originated from Iraqi territory.
➡️ Pro-Iranian militias operate inside Iraq.
➡️ Some of these groups possess drone and missile capabilities.
➡️ Iran maintains close relationships with several of these militias.
➡️ Baghdad is struggling to bring them fully under state control.
🧨 COULD THIS BE PART OF AN IRANIAN STRATEGY?
From a strategic perspective, using allied armed groups allows Iran to increase pressure on the United States and its allies without necessarily having Iranian forces directly conduct every attack.
The objective could be to force Washington to defend multiple fronts simultaneously:
🇺🇸 US forces
🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia
🇮🇱 Israel
🚢 Regional shipping routes
🛢️ Gulf oil infrastructure
But there is a major risk for Tehran:
👉 If attacks are launched from Iraqi territory, the United States or its allies could retaliate inside Iraq.
That could transform Iraq from a country caught between two sides into another battlefield of the war.
⚠️ THE NEXT 24–72 HOURS COULD BE CRITICAL
Watch for these signs:
🔴 Does the United States begin directly striking militia positions inside Iraq?
🔴 Does any militia claim responsibility for the attack against Saudi Arabia?
🔴 Does Baghdad arrest members of pro-Iranian armed groups?
🔴 Do the militias openly challenge the Iraqi government?
🔴 Does Iran increase its support or issue threats against Baghdad?
🔴 Does Saudi Arabia retaliate against targets inside Iraq?
If several of these things happen simultaneously, the risk of Iraq becoming directly involved in the war would increase significantly.
🇮🇶 MY ANALYSIS
Iraq is in an extremely dangerous position.
Baghdad wants to maintain relations with both Washington and Tehran, but some of the pro-Iranian militias inside Iraq have enough military and political power to challenge the government.
Now something even more serious has happened:
An attack against a US ally appears to have originated from Iraqi territory.
That puts the Iraqi government in an almost impossible position.
👉 Control the militias and risk an internal confrontation...
OR
👉 Allow them to continue operating and risk US or allied retaliation against targets inside Iraq.
💥 The greatest danger may not simply be the continuation of the US-Iran war.
The greater danger is that the proxy war could evolve into a direct war inside Iraq.
And if that happens, Iraq could once again become one of the main battlefields of the Middle East.
🇮🇶🇮🇷🇺🇸 IRAQ COULD END UP PAYING THE PRICE FOR A WAR IT DOES NOT WANT.
