🇮🇶 IRAQ NEWS: AL-ZAIDI SEEKS SINGLE-PACKAGE DEAL TO COMPLETE CABINET
📰 NEWS SUMMARY
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi met with Nouri Al-Maliki, leader of the State of Law Coalition, as political forces continue efforts to fill Iraq’s remaining vacant ministerial positions.
According to Shafaq News, the proposed solution is a “single-package” deal in which candidates for the remaining ministries would be presented together rather than negotiated individually.
🏛️ The unresolved positions include key ministries such as:
🔹 Interior
🔹 Defense
🔹 Deputy Prime Minister positions
🔹 Ministries allocated to Kurdish parties
The Coordination Framework (CF) is also preparing to send a delegation to the Kurdistan Region to help resolve disagreements between Kurdish political parties, including the KDP and PUK.
📅 The cabinet is reportedly expected to be completed following the events marking Sovereignty Day.
🔎 ANALYSIS: WHY IS AL-MALIKI INVOLVED?
Nouri Al-Maliki is not the prime minister in this story, nor does the article say that he is taking over the government.
Instead, he is an important political figure within the Coordination Framework, a coalition of predominantly Shiite political forces.
His State of Law Coalition is part of this broader political bloc.
🤝 The Coordination Framework plays an important role in:
▪️ Negotiating government formation
▪️ Coordinating positions among its member parties
▪️ Discussing ministerial appointments
▪️ Negotiating with Kurdish and Sunni political forces
▪️ Supporting or negotiating government legislation and policies
Therefore, Al-Maliki's meeting with Al-Zaidi is significant because completing the cabinet requires political agreement among several competing blocs.
🇮🇶 THE BIGGER PICTURE
Iraq's parliament approved Al-Zaidi's government on May 14, but confidence votes for nine portfolios were postponed because of political disagreements.
Now, the proposed single-package approach could provide a mechanism to resolve those remaining vacancies.
💡 WHY THIS MATTERS
A fully formed cabinet would give the government a more complete institutional structure and potentially improve its ability to move forward with its legislative and economic program.
⚠️ IMPORTANT FOR CURRENCY WATCHERS
This article does NOT announce a new CBI exchange rate.
It also does not confirm a revaluation of the Iraqi dinar.
However, completion of the government could be relevant to the broader economic picture because government formation, the federal budget, reforms, and economic policy are interconnected.
📌 For now, the confirmed story is about government formation and political negotiations — not a confirmed exchange-rate change.
🇮🇶 IRAQ'S POLITICAL PUZZLE CONTINUES TO MOVE FORWARD.

Al-Zaidi seeks single-package deal to fill cabinet vacancies

Shafaq News- Baghdad
A proposed mechanism could be used to complete Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi’s cabinet if political forces fail to agree on candidates for vacant ministries or their allocation, a government source told Shafaq News on Tuesday, as State of Law Coalition leader Nouri Al-Maliki met with Al-Zaidi to discuss the issue.
Efforts to agree on candidates for the vacant portfolios, including the Interior and Defense ministries, have yet to produce an agreement, with political forces and leaders still divided, the source said. Under the proposed mechanism, the nominees would be put forward as a “single package” to complete Al-Zaidi’s cabinet.
“Most political forces have authorized the prime minister to select candidates he considers suitable for the vacant ministries,” the source added.
The mechanism would also cover the deputy prime minister positions, according to the source, in an effort to avoid political vetoes. Kurdish parties have yet to agree on which party should hold the post, with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) both involved in the discussions.
Separately, Al-Zaidi met with Al-Maliki to discuss the importance of maintaining dialogue among political forces to complete the government formation, as well as supporting government efforts to combat corruption, pursue reforms and strengthen stability.
The source added that the Coordination Framework (CF), a coalition of predominantly Shiite political forces, would nominate a delegation to visit the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) following celebrations marking the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq. The delegation would seek to determine which party will hold the second deputy prime minister post and resolve nominations for ministries allocated to Kurdish parties in the federal government.
The source said the cabinet is expected to be completed after the ceremonies and events marking Sovereignty Day. A televised address by the prime minister on behalf of Iraq is also expected to be broadcast for the occasion.
Iraq’s parliament approved Al-Zaidi’s government and ministerial program on May 14, granting confidence to 14 ministers while postponing votes on nine remaining portfolios amid political disagreements over the allocation of ministries.
Since then, the Coordination Framework has authorized Al-Zaidi to contact the heads of parliamentary blocs and political entities participating in the government whose candidates for the vacant ministries have yet to be finalized.
