Launching the e-shopping service for social protection beneficiaries, 8 OCT

 Economy News – Baghdad

The Social Protection Authority announced on Monday the launch of the e-shopping service for the beneficiaries of the social safety network through the Key Card.

The President of the Authority, Ahmed Al-Mussawi, said in a statement, seen by “Economy News”, that “the electronic shopping service for the beneficiaries of the social protection network was launched through the (Key Card) card, to allow them the opportunity to buy from various stores,” pointing out that “the amounts of the subsidy will remain inside the card for three months, and will not be withdrawn unless any purchase is made during this period.”

Al-Moussawi added that “the authority also launched, in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce – the General Company for Central Markets, sales operations at a discount or at the cost price for Key Card card holders of social protection beneficiaries,” pointing out that “beneficiaries can buy from the branches of the cooperation supermarket at competitive prices and supported by the use of POS devices that rely on the biometric footprint.”

Al-Moussawi explained that “this service will be initially launched in Baghdad governorate early next month, where 388,276 families will benefit from it, and this process is expected to maintain the circulation of an amount exceeding 82 billion dinars per month, as part of the government’s efforts to switch to the electronic monetary system and reduce dependence on paper cash.”

Al-Moussawi revealed that one of the advantages of the new system is:
– Facilitate purchases and limit them to the grant funds of the beneficiaries to ensure that support is directed to the eligible categories.
– The amounts will remain in the card for 3 months for the purpose of providing the right opportunity to shop.
– Supporting the government’s policy in promoting the use of electronic cash and reducing dependence on cash transactions.

He pointed out that the branches available for shopping are:
1. Selling / Central Worker Market
2. Salhiya Central Market
3. People’s Central Market
4. Freedom / Al-Jawadin Bridge
5. Jamila / Near Muzaffar Square
6. Palestine Street / next to the Iraqi Housing Fund

Al-Moussawi stressed that “this initiative also comes to enhance the shopping experience for social protection beneficiaries at subsidized prices, and provides them with their basic needs easily, while benefiting from the transition to the electronic system.”
