Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadhil, stressed today, Thursday, the importance of investing in clean energy in Iraq.

This came in a speech he delivered during his sponsorship of the conference to launch the electronic platform for qualifying companies specialized in solar energy systems, in the presence of government officials from several ministries, representatives of the Central Bank, and members of the Parliamentary Energy Committee.

The conference, organized by the Ministry of Electricity, aims to provide an electronic window for registration and pre-qualification of companies specialized in installing solar energy systems. Citizens can purchase these systems from licensed companies, by paying in cash, or through an interest-free loan from the Central Bank of Iraq.

In his speech during the conference, the minister said"Iraq enjoys a unique geographical location that provides it with enormous potential in the field of solar and wind energy."

He explained that "this energy represents an opportunity to diversify the economy and create new job opportunities, in addition to improving energy security and reducing carbon emissions."

The Iraqi government has contracted to implement huge solar energy stations with a total capacity of up to 1,700 megawatts in the areas of Karbala, Muthanna and Basra, in cooperation with foreign and Iraqi companies.

Fadhel praised the Central Bank of Iraq’s initiative to support renewable energy by providing financial loans with subsidized interest to encourage citizens to install solar energy systems in their homes.

He also commended the efforts of the National Initiative Committee for Energy Support and Emissions Reduction, which has worked over the years to promote the use of clean energy in Iraq.

The minister added, "Launching the electronic platform through the Aur portal aims to establish a transparent and effective mechanism for selecting qualified companies to implement solar energy projects, which ensures the quality of services provided to citizens."
