Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fouad Hussein received today, Wednesday, in his office at the Ministry’s headquarters, Acting Head of the United Nations Investigation Team, to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by the Terrorist Organization of ISIS (UNITAD), Anna Piero Yobis.
A State Department statement received by {Euphrates News} a copy of it said that “during the meeting, the procedures conducted by the investigation team to enhance accountability for crimes committed by the terrorist organization ISIS (UNITAD) were reviewed to end its presence in Iraq in an orderly manner by September 17, and in line with Security Council resolution 2697 (2023).”
N. Hussein indicated that the competent judicial and government authorities in Iraq are looking forward to receiving all the evidence, materials and analysis collected by the UN team to enhance accountability for crimes committed by the terrorist organization ISIS during its occupation of a number of areas of Iraq in 2014.
For her part, the Acting Special Adviser Pierreo Yobis, briefed that the main procedures of the team at this stage focus on completing the archiving and documentation of the evidence, materials and analysis held by the team for the purpose of handing them over to the competent Iraqi authorities, in accordance with Security Council resolutions 2379 (2017) and 2697 (2023) and the United Nations working methods adopted in this field, noting that the UN team has returned over the past few months many of the evidence and documents it obtained to the competent Iraqi authorities.
