🇮🇶 IRAQ CURRENCY UPDATE — WHAT DOES “DELETE THE ZEROS” REALLY MEAN?
Omar reports that the CBI is discussing the possible reintroduction of the 25, 50 and 100 dinar notes, which could make everyday transactions easier. 💵
⚠️ But issuing these denominations would NOT automatically confirm that Iraq is about to implement “Delete the Zeros.”
🔢 DELETE THE ZEROS = REDENOMINATION
A redenomination would change the face value of the currency by removing zeros. By itself, this would not increase the dinar’s purchasing power.
🏦 COEXISTENCE PERIOD
Under the concept discussed, old and new notes could circulate together for several years, giving banks time to exchange currency and adjust their systems.
🏛️ WHO DECIDES?
The CBI Governor stated that issuing or redesigning denominations falls within the CBI’s authority, while removing zeros would require legislation.
💱 THE RATE MATTERS
If Iraq removed three zeros while keeping the current rate of 1,310 old dinars = $1, mathematically:
➡️ 1.31 new dinars = $1
That is NOT the same as establishing a new rate of 1 new dinar = $1.

📌 Bottom line: New lower denominations could support everyday transactions, but their issuance alone does not prove that “Delete the Zeros” is imminent. 🇮🇶
