🇮🇶🛢️ IRAQ’S OIL EXPORTS REBOUND — AND IRAN’S ROLE RAISES QUESTIONS

🇮🇶🛢️ IRAQ’S OIL EXPORTS REBOUND — AND IRAN’S ROLE RAISES QUESTIONS

A new report from Iraq Business News/AGBI, dated September 30, says Iraq has restored its oil exports to approximately 70% of pre-war levels.

🚢 According to analysts cited in the report, Iraq increased oil transfers through the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran appeared to turn a blind eye to some shipments.

💰 This is important because oil remains a major source of Iraq’s government revenue. A recovery in exports could help strengthen government finances and reduce fiscal pressure.

🔎 MY ANALYSIS

The interesting part is Iran’s apparent tolerance.

The report does not say that Iran formally agreed to facilitate Iraq’s exports, nor does it explain why Iran tolerated some shipments.

However, several possibilities could exist, including economic interests, regional stability, bilateral understandings or other political considerations.

👀 MY OBSERVATION

One question worth watching is whether this could be connected to reciprocity between Baghdad and Tehran.

If Iraq previously helped Iran with arrangements that allowed some Iranian aircraft to continue operating or reaching Iraq despite pressure from Washington, it is reasonable to ask whether Iran's later tolerance of Iraqi oil shipments could represent some form of reciprocal understanding.

⚠️ But this is an observation and hypothesis—not a confirmed explanation. The available report does not establish a direct connection between the two events.

🇮🇶🛢️ What is clear is that Iraq is finding ways to restore a significant portion of its oil-export capacity, and Iran’s role in allowing certain shipments deserves attention.

📊 More oil exports can mean more government revenue, which could become particularly relevant as Iraq moves toward its 2027 federal budget.
